Made in France in the late 1800's, this type of coal iron was of the first irons made. This piece features the original wood handle affixed to a detailed support, original lid lock, free moving hinged lid opened to add hot coals, and interesting makers marks. Besides the back vent hole (see photo #3), this piece is in excellent condition. Over 100 years old! I love the "sharp teeth" look about it.
7 1/2" x 8" x 3 1/2" and weighing 4lbs, 6.6oz. Beautiful antique.
