(P.O.P) – Poems of Praise is inspired by my beautiful grandfather, Albert Narcisse, Sr., affectionately known as POP. Born in 1902, he was 65 when I was born. I remember traveling often from my home in Houston to Governor Mouton St. in St. Martinsville, LA to visit. The fond memories of watching him pray on the make shift kneeler, going to Mass, speaking Creole for which I never understood, listening and dancing to Zydeco music, walking down the street for exercise and sitting with me on the rocking bench on the front porch. He was everything to me. He truly was my best friend. He was very wise and caring. I remember sharing personal things with him and chuckling saying “Pop, now I am only telling you, don’t say anything to anyone”. He would just smile. POP treated everyone with dignity and respect. He never liked to see or hear confusion and would cry if people were upset with each other. A strong man but gentle man, a tall man but a teddy bear at heart. He and my grandmother, Louisiana, were married 76 years. Through this union, they had 12 children and a host of grands, great grands as well as great great-grands. Everyone truly loved this gentle giant. He was blessed to live 102 years and made every day of his life meaningful. This poetry book is an homage to the wonderful example he left us all. As you read each page, my hope is that you are encouraged and uplifted. Thanks to my husband Joseph and daughter Jordan for encouraging me to walk in my gift. Their love and affection makes my heart smile. Read more
