Rare, signed example of the work of hand sculptor Ray Shaw. Admitting she was obsessed with hands, Shaw devoted herself almost exclusively to them. Working primarily in the 1930s & 1940s, some of her notable subjects were Albert Einstein, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Helen Hayes and Lauren Bacall.The vase is 10" tall, 5.5" across the top and 4.5" across the bottom. It has consistent, uniform crazing in all areas. I've read this is not an unusual finish for her pieces, but have no authoritative info on that. There is discoloration around the base and near the inside base of the hand.
