Spalted Pecan Bowl

“Spalted” means that the wood exhibits rich, colorful veining where it has withstood the elements over time; it’s especially beautiful on lighter woods like maple, pecan or post oak. I hand-crafted this bowl of wood salvaged from a friend’s yard, and applied multiple coats of a durable, non-toxic finish (it is food safe). While it can be used as a salad bowl, the finish will last longer if you use it for dry food items, such as fruit or nuts.

This bowl features a natural bark inclusion which creates a prominent crevice from one edge to the lower portion. It also has a small foot (3" x 1/8") to give the bowl a bit of a lift. I've signed the bottom, and included the wood species and the year it was made.
